Qui-Gon thought about Obi-Wan's admission. He had seemed so sure, but Qui-Gon worried that he was still suffering from a case of master worship.

Then again, as Obi-Wan had reminded him, he had gone through that embarrassing crush phase several years before. Indeed, Obi-Wan had gone through it and come out the other side to show more interest in partners his own age, young people he could go out and have fun with.

And yet, last night he had chosen Epergene, a contemporary of Qui-Gon himself. Or at least Qui-Gon assumed he had. He had certainly seemed intent on doing so when Qui-Gon had left the night before. Apparently Epergene wasn't too old for Obi-Wan.

Qui-Gon blinked. Too old for Obi-Wan? Why would that be a concern? The issue was if his apprentice was old enough to know his own mind.

Or was it? He thought back to Obi-Wan's crush phase--the boy's awkward actions around his master, painful blushes, and inability to look his master in the eye were all powerful signs, even if Qui-Gon hadn't been able to sense the riotous emotions his apprentice hadn't been able to control.

The Obi-Wan of that time was a far cry from the mature, assured man who had stood before him the day before. There had been a slight hesitation in his declaration that Qui-Gon had read as immaturity. Now he wondered if perhaps that might be better attributed to the emotion of the moment. Could it have meant so much to Obi-Wan that he had paused as he searched for just the right words?

Force but he was a fool! He would be lucky if Obi-Wan even listened to him after the way he'd dismissed his feelings the day before.

Just then, Obi-Wan walked into the living room. "Good morning, Master," he said tiredly as he looked around, retrieved the object he wanted on the low table in front of the couch, and turned to leave.

He stopped, back to his master, silent for a second. "Yes?"

"We need to talk."

He looked over his shoulder, barely affording Qui-Gon the prescribed amount of courtesy. "About what?

"About yesterday...and last night."
