Obi-Wan sat there for several moments in complete silence. He had no idea what he should do, but for the moment, he was not thinking of his options. Perhaps Master Yoda was right, and given time, his feelings would fade.
No doubt the ancient Jedi was right. Obi-Wan sighed. That did not make his feelings now any less real. But he could not bring it upon himself to say Yoda was wrong.
No peace, should he follow that path.... It was, Obi-Wan could see, a dire claim. Enough of a warning that, after sitting and meditating upon it, Obi-Wan could begin to accept the choice he had to make.
Never to speak of his feelings, never to tell Qui-Gon. Allow them to fade, in time.
He bowed his head. Until then, he would simply have to feel miserable.
He looked up, startled, as the hand touched his shoulder. He hadn't heard his Master enter the room. "Yes, Master?" His voice was soft, and shook slightly. He inhaled deeply and calmed himself.
Qui-Gon sat down beside him, and said nothing. He was looking at Obi-Wan quietly, and Obi-Wan got the feeling that his Master was searching him for something. He tried to control the blush as he thought of what it could be.
He blushed harder, however, when Qui-Gon brought his hand up and cupped Obi-Wan's chin. He met the direct gaze squarely, but did not control the shiver. "Do you know why he told you not to speak of this to me?" Qui-Gon asked, after another moment of silence.
Obi-Wan's eyes went wide, and he shook his head.
Qui-Gon's tone became amused. "It was because as soon as you left his office, he came scuttling into our quarters and demanded to know my own feelings. Said if I didn't return yours he'd have you reassigned to spare you the--"
"Reassigned?" Obi-Wan sat up straighter, pulling away from his Master's hand. "I don't--"
He subsided. "Yes, Master?"
"You have not been reassigned."
Smiling in relief, Obi-Wan replied simply, "Yes, Master."
Qui-Gon continued looking at him, though. As if waiting.
Then Obi-Wan blinked. "I haven't?" he asked.
His Master smiled at him. "There was no need."
It might have been undignified, or unbecoming a Jedi, but Obi-Wan shouted, then pushed himself forward and into Qui-Gon's waiting arms.
