Obi-Wan shook his head. "No, this wasn't the agreement. You told me that you would help me get Qui-Gon." He stood, intending to leave, but Palpatine's voice stopped him.

"I know what I agreed to, you little whelp." The soothing tone to his voice was gone, replaced by ugliness then it returned, honey-sweet. "And I do keep my word."

Obi-Wan turned just as Palpatine opened the door and allowed someone else into the room. Another human, a man and...

"You seem surprised to see me, my apprentice," Qui-Gon said archly, striding across the room to stand before Obi-Wan.

"I...I didn't," Obi-Wan stammered and Qui-Gon lay a finger across his lips, silencing him.

"I've waited some time for this," Qui-Gon whispered harshly, sending a strange thrill to race through Obi-Wan. "A very long time." He removed his finger and replaced it with his lips, kissing Obi-Wan roughly and it was all he could do to remain standing.

When Qui-Gon finally pulled away, Obi-Wan swayed on his feet, nearly falling. He licked his lips and was startled by the taste of copper. Qui-Gon had kissed him roughly enough to split his lip.

A finger touched Obi-Wan's lip again, wiping away the blood. Qui-Gon studied the bright smear of crimson on his finger before he smiled, a cold smile that Obi-Wan had never seen before.

"Time for your real lessons to begin, my apprentice," Qui-Gon said, licking the blood from his finger. The first flush of fear went through Obi-Wan as he knelt before the man he had thought he knew and loved.

Somewhere across the room he could hear Palpatine laughing, even as Obi-Wan lowered his head, thinking of an old saying he had heard years before, about being careful what you wished for.
